:: Welcome to Chester
Located on the River Dee in North West England, close to the
border with Wales, Chester is one of the best-preserved walled cities
in the UK. Dating back 2,000 years to Roman times, it was once the
principal town of England and has retained many relics, such as
the weir on the river and its amphitheatre, alongside subsequent
elegant Victorian and Georgian architecture. The city is a popular
shopping centre, with its unique ‘rows’, or two levels
of shops, dating from medieval times. It also boasts a thriving
arts and culture scene, many fine restaurants, traditional old pubs
alongside smart wine bars, and one of Britain’s best zoos.
The best bit is that it’s big enough to offer a good range
of services but not too big to be impersonal – a perfect balance
that make it a popular choice among both local and foreign students.
