:: Welcome to Leeds
The northern city of Leeds is one of England’s fastest
growing cities, but for reasons much different to those of its early
years. One of the world’s biggest producers of textiles in
the 19th century, it survived a post-industrial economic slump and
has now re-gained status as one of the north’s most important
financial and administrative hubs: it is also the proud host of
many cultural events, including theatre, music and art; it boasts
some fine Victorian architecture and is the ideal place to delve
into a little industrial archaeology and social history if you so
choose. As with many northern cities, the people in Leeds know how
to have a good time, and you don’t have to look far for your
next pint – the city has countless pubs, bars and clubs where
it’s easy to forget about the often unpredictable weather
and join in the party.
